Food for health & nature

Norwich Research Park Inspiring Science:  Did you know that your body is home to trillions of microbes? These tiny life forms live everywhere, but most live in your digestive system or ‘gut’. They keep us healthy by releasing nutrients that we need & they can help fight off infection!

Scientists at the Quadram Institute on Norwich Research Park are working to understand the interactions between the gut microbiome, food and the human body. This will help us develop ways to treat microbiome-related disorders or prevent conditions from developing, helping keep us all healthy throughout life!

TOP TIP:  Eat lots of fruit, vegetables, whole grains & fermented foods - not sugary processed food. This will keep your microbe community in balance so they can help your lungs, liver, brain & even your happiness.

Art Exhibition

Showing the work of artists Florence Eade  Instagram,  Holly Sandiford  hollysandifordart.wordpress.com and Jennie Pedley  jenniepedley.co.uk.

The exhibition was conceived by Jennie Pedley, inspired by her residency at the Quadram Institute in 2019, which was funded by Arts Council England.  Jennie's translucent capsules and 'gut lining' patterns, draw the eye to the ceramic organs and suggest a future of medicine centred on our gut microbiome. They have been created from recycled /reused materials.

Holly Sandiford is an artist who uses alternative photography to explore the connection between the vastness of space and the smallest of microorganisms.  Look out for her gelli printing workshop using Petri dishes at the Edible East exhibition at The Forum in September.
